About six months ago I started Guys Guide, a blog, Instagram, and website devoted to helping others (mainly guys, hence the name) discover the latest trends in fashion, foodie movements, and pop culture happenings. Guys Guide was born out of a rather tough personal situation, without bringing this article down too much I’ll just say that Guys Guide was created as a creative outlet out of a dark time in my life.
After having social media for a few years, and currently majoring in digital media + public relations and marketing in school I was yearning for something deeper than liking a Facebook status or Tweet. I wanted to create something to help others who were interested in what I was interested in. I love the city of Greenville, where I am from and currently live, I love food and trying new restaurants, and I love fashion, style, and anything to do with celebrities. After doing some research and digging around I found that Greenville did not really have a resident “How To” blogger, so I decided I would take it beyond being a “How To” blogger and create a guide for men in particular on how to dress, where to eat, what to buy, and what events to go to around town. While all those surface level things are nice, I also created it as a place where I could connect with other like-minded people, and I can honestly say I have made some great real friendships out of this whole experience.
In the past six months that Guys Guide has been up and running, it has grown exponentially. With the help of many other bloggers, and PR gurus in the upstate of South Carolina Guys Guide has become a thriving Instagram, and blog. It has helped me way more than I originally thought when I first started it as a small creative outlet. I believe that social media should be used to build each other up, and bring positivity to each other rather than negativity. The world is already filled with so much negative energy; social media should be a place to escape for a little while. I hope that if you visit Guys Guide you can get something beneficial out of it, whether that is a trendy tip on what to wear, or if you connect with someone you otherwise never would have discovered.
